Company History

Since its inception, our institute has been at the forefront of biomedical research in the Dutch Caribbean, driven by a mission to address the unique health challenges facing the region. The Caribbean is a vibrant and diverse area, yet it remains underrepresented in global health research. The lack of comprehensive studies and data specific to the region has left critical gaps in our understanding of the health issues affecting Caribbean populations.

We believe that advancing biomedical research in the Caribbean is essential to improving the quality of life for its people. Chronic diseases, infectious diseases, and the effects of climate change on health demand tailored solutions grounded in local research. By focusing on the unique genetic, environmental, and societal factors at play in the Caribbean, we aim to generate impactful data that informs better healthcare strategies and policies.

Our institute was founded to bridge this gap. Over the years, we have built a strong network of researchers, healthcare providers, and academic institutions, collaborating to create evidence-based solutions that cater to the Caribbean’s needs.

Investing in Caribbean biomedical research is not just about addressing local needs; it is also about contributing valuable insights to global science. The Caribbean has a wealth of untapped potential, and our mission is to ensure it becomes a beacon of innovation and progress in biomedical research.

The Curaçao Biomedical & Health Research Institute (CBHRI), founded in 2016 in Willemstad, focuses on translational research to bridge laboratory science and patient care. As a non-profit, CBHRI targets prevalent diseases in Curaçao, the Caribbean, and Latin America, with expertise in immunology, virology, oncology, epidemiology, and social sciences, aiming to improve healthcare and combat emerging diseases.
